Programmes

Department of Plant Sciences
  1. M.Sc. Plant Biology and Biotechnology: The course is a four semester programme that is evaluated based on credit system. A total of 11 core courses, four elective courses, three practical courses and a project have to be completed successfully by the students in the four semesters. The core courses offered during the four semesters are: Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Macromolecules Structure and Function, Microbiology (I Semester); Plant Physiology, Environmental Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Plant Biochemistry (II Semester); Genomics and Proteomics, Plant Developmental Biology, Plant Biotechnology (III Semester).
  2. M.Sc. Molecular Microbiology: The course is a four semester programme that is evaluated based on credit system. A total of 11 core courses, four elective courses, three practical courses and a project have to be completed successfully by the students in the four semesters. The core courses offered during the four semesters are: Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Macromolecules Structure and Function, Microbiology (I Semester); Microbial Physiology & Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology and Genetics Engineering (II Semester); Genomics and Proteomics, Bioprocess Engineering & Technology Processing, Microbial Metabolomics (III Semester). The students of the Masters programmes would have a lab in the first three semesters and in the four semester they undertake a project work under the supervision of a faculty member.
  3. Ph.D. Plant Sciences: The Ph.D. programme requires a minimum of 2 years of residence from the date of confirmation of admission. The requirement for the award of Ph.D. includes the submission of a thesis on an approved topic of research under the guidance of a faculty member. The scholar presents the research work in a comprehensive seminar before the submission of the thesis and faces an oral examination in defense of the thesis. The average time required for Ph.D. is about 4 years. Candidates can also work for Ph.D. under the guidance of recognized research supervisors at the external centres recognized for this purpose. The candidates have to go through the same selection process, like the regular candidates, for this purpose.
