Theme of Workshop:

BioQuest is an annual event of the School of Life Sciences (University of Hyderabad) to showcase the ongoing teaching and research programs of the School of Life Sciences. The School of Life Sciences, established in 1977 with grand vision of promoting inter-disciplinary teaching and research, has become the Centre of Excellence for 'Post Graduate Education and Research in Biology and Biotechnology'. Currently, the School has 4 departments, Biochemistry, Plant Sciences, Animal Biology and Biotechnology & Bioinformatics and a Center for Systems Biology, offering Masters and Ph.D programs in all these areas. In addition the School offers Masters in Molecular Microbiology, M.Tech in Bioinformatics and Integrated Masters in Systems Biology (first of its kind in the country). With state of the art infrastructural facilities in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, bio-imaging systems and bio-informatics, around 60 faculty, 50 post-doctoral fellows and 350 Ph.D scholars working under one roof, the School is one of the most happening and largest in the country.

The theme of BioQuest 2017 is “Integrative Approach for Understanding Life Processes”. It is widely acknowledged that today’s problems in biology cannot be addressed with expertise in any one discipline. Hence, besides biological sciences, there is a need for expertise in chemical, physical, mathematical, statistical and computational sciences to address with a holistic approach. Bioquest 2017 is aptly tuned for this scientific endeavour and is designed to provide a platform for scientists working in divergent areas within the campus of University of Hyderabad to come together, interact, exchange ideas and explore collaborations.

The concise and comprehensive two-day Bioquest program (12th & 13th, October, 2017), provides a unique opportunity for the faculty, young scientists and students from different science disciplines to collaborate and work in a systems biology approach towards understanding the life processes in health and disease. As part of the event, the following activities have been planned:
      1. Oral and poster presentations by the faculty, scholars and students.
      2. Panel Discussion on “Science, Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship”
      3. A boot camp on “Licensing vs Start-ups: Maximizing value of R&D from Academia”
      4. Cultural Program

We hope the BioQuest 2017 will help in promoting interactions and collaborations among the scientists working in different disciplines in academy and industry to address the problems in biology and understand the life processes in health and disease.

Oral Presentation

Interested Ph.D scholars (completed three years) and postdoctoral researchers (completed one year) can send us (bioquest.slsuoh@gmail.com) the title and abstract of their research topics, directed through their respective mentors, on or before September 15, 2017. All the abstracts would be screened by a committee and the selected presentations will be informed by email. Three Ph.D scholars and one postdoctoral researcher from each department will be selected for the final presentation.

Poster Presentation

Students (M.Sc and I.M.Sc.), doctoral and postdoctoral researchers interested in presenting a poster can submit the title and the abstract to bioquest.slsuoh@gmail.com on or before September 15, 2017 through proper channel.
