Program Details

The workshop starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 5:00 PM with breaks for teas and lunch. Bring your own laptop or use the desktop provided. I want you mimic the moves of the instructor for instantaneous learning. The workshop is peppered with examples of data from the biomedical field. Comprehensive notes will be provided.

Outline of topics

Day 1: Introduction to R software and visualization of data

Background in the usage of R is not needed. An intensive training in R will be provided. It is an important skill to acquire ways to present data. I expect that you strive get that skill.

Day 2: Regressions Galore

Causal models are important to identify what causes an effect or response. Topics that will be covered: Simple Linear Regression Models; Confidence Bands; Prediction Bands; Setting standards of growth in Clinical Practice; Multiple regression model; Model Selection; Logistic Regression; Multinomial Regression; Proportional Odds Models; Poisson Regression; Negative Binomial Regression.

Day 3: Data Mining Methods

Classification Trees; Regression Trees; Random Forests; Developing diagnostic tests based on biomarkers; Sensitivity and Specificity of diagnostic tests.

Day 4: Clustering + Bi-clustering + heat maps + Gene-Drug interactions + Disease Progression Models

The day is devoted to a jambalaya of methods. Two Critical areas of applications will be elaborated: Gene-Drug interactions and Disease Progression Models.
